The Trip

Now the real fun begins and we will be showing you the greatest time and some of the best waves in the world.

Once you have made a booking with us, we just need to know your arrival time at Padang International Airport so we can arrange your transfer pick up.

Your trip starts with us in Padang, but you need to do your airline reservations to make it on time for the speedboat transfer to the island, which leaves around 1 pm the day of departure.

Knowing this, you should give yourself more than 3 hours, so you should be getting a plane that gets to Padang no later than 10 am.

Some guests prefer to arrive the day before and stay the night in Padang in which case we will arrange your hotel for you.

Depending on where you are coming from (Australia, Indonesia, America, Europe…) you would be arranging your trip differently. Our guests will be usually coming through Jakarta to Padang or Kuala Lumpur to Padang (Air Asia).

Once in at the Airport in Padang, our main driver will be there to take you to our meeting point and join the rest of the group.

Usually we use a Hotel lobby where you can relax, and do your last things before you come to the island.

Around 1 pm we go to the harbor, which is only 5 minutes from the metting point and we depart for Botik on our chartered speedboat.

It is a 4 to 5 hour ride to the Island of Botik on board the speedboat.

Once here at our Resort, after a brief welcome, you will be accommodated in your new paradise home for the next 11 nights…

Now the real fun begins and we will be showing you the greatest time and some of the best waves in the world.

A Normal Surfing Day

A Normal Surfing Day...

A Normal Surfing Day

A Normal Surfing Day...

A normal surfing day in Botik consists of:

  • Meeting around 6.30 for a great breakfast in the restaurant and depending on the wind and swell conditions we get on our speed boats and go find the best waves possible.
  • Come back for lunch and relax for as long as you need.
  • We go back out surfing again depending on our group, around 2 or 3 pm for our evening session until dark.
  • Showers, a great dinner, check out all pictures, relax and talk about our plans for the next day….

We make a lot of Barbeques and fires on the beach and usually once every trip we go to a pristine sandy island about 5 minutes away for a bonfire and drinks before sunset.

Notice that we have 2 speedboats and sometimes conditions can be great so we can have you out at much as you want in the water. This is a great advantage that we use by having a reduced number of guests with us.

Our main goal is showing the best surf you can imagine but also, fishing and spear fishing have become very common activities in our resort and we have noticed an increasing amount of guests bringing their own fishing gear and ready to get out there for some great fun.

Over the past 2 years we have been out looking for good spots and we have found amazing fishing areas near reefs and in Deep Ocean.

Thanks to a radar system we discovered amazing pinnacles in deeper waters that come up to only 5 meters below the water surface and where large pelagic such as Dogtooth Tuna, Wahoo, King fish, Giant Trevally, Mackerels, King Barracudas and others can be found patrolling the reefs and only 5 to 10 minutes from our resort.

We have a few fishing rods, spear guns, snorkels, fins and other fishing gear but we strongly recommend bringing your own.

We are more than happy to take you fishing for a whole new different experience.

Our reefs and marine life are rich and spectacular and you will most likely be able to see all kinds of reef sharks, turtles, stingrays, manta rays large pelagic, beautiful reef fish and much more.

This is definitely an experience you will never forget

What to bring

Before you start a trip with us you may start thinking what to bring with you and we list you some tips right below.

  • Surfboards. At least 3, but it also depends on how hard you want to charge.
  • Wax. 2 or 3 packs should be enough.
  • Leashes. Make sure you bring at least a strong one, then a couple of normal thin ones.
  • Towel. We provide you with a towel at the beginning of the trip but you can also bring an extra one.
  • Waterproof sunscreen is highly recommended. We are right on the equator.
  • Mosquito Repellent. We have at the resort but you are welcome to bring your own.
  • Fishing and spearfishing equipment. If you re really into it, you can have a great time here with us.
  • Raincoat could be useful for rainy days.
  • We provide with a lot of different snacks, but you are welcome to bring some of your favorites.
  • Cash for beers and liquor (3 USD/beer, 6 USD for liquored drinks) and for surfing photographs (300 USD for the whole collection of trip).
  • Original passport and photocopy of your passport (this is mandatory).
  • Travel insurance is a must and you have to bring us a photocopy of your insurance policy.
  • We have a good variety of books but you can bring a few if you wish to read while relaxing.

Medical matters

Your health is a very important part of your trip and we try to have all our guests as informed as possible about this subject so that they stay healthy while they are with us.

So therefore we suggest you bring:

  • Malaria pills. This is your choice, there is Malaria in the Mentawais but Malaria is a disease that passes from one person (that has Malaria) to another and we are the only ones on the island so the chances of getting it are very small.
  • Anti allergies.
  • Antibiotics for reef cuts.

In case of the need for medical evacuation, we will take you to the nearest and safest hospital at your own cost.

We insist that we require travel insurance for your stay at Botik Resort.

We are not responsible for any accidents that you may have while doing any activities on your own.

So you have booked with Botikresort Mentawais and now you have to arrange your flights to arrive in Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia.

Once you have done this, please contact us to let us know via e-mail your flight information.

We suggest you search for flights with your local travel agents, they will be able to help but remember that you can always contact us for any questions you may have.

There are three different airports that our guests normally arrive from to get to Padang: Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur and Medan.

If you are coming from Australia, you might want to check www.garuda-indonesia.com for flights all the way to Padang flying through Jakarta. Also www.airasia.com has flights to Padang going through Kuala Lumpur.

If you are coming from anywhere in Indonesia you might want to check www.garuda-indonesia.com, and Lion Air website (www.lionair.co.id). These companies have flights from anywhere in Indonesia to Jakarta and then Padang. If coming from Nias, you can fly through Medan also with Lion air.

Some of our guests fly straight from South America, especially Brazil. We strongly suggest two great companies with really good promotions, www.qatarairways.com and www.emirates.com. Both Companies arrive in Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta (Check www.garuda-indonesia.com and www.airasia.com for connecting flights to Padang).

You may also consider www.qatarairways.com and www.emirates.com if coming from Europe or North America (East Coast).

When flying from the West coast of the United States you might want to check www.china-airlines.com, www.jal.com, www.koreanair.com and www.cathaypacific.com. These companies have great deals, specially China airlines and Korean. You might also want to look into www.singaporeairlines.com to fly with the best airline in the world on board its non-stop flights from LAX to Singapore.

Once you have reached the airport in Padang, our representative (UCHO) will be there to take you to our meeting point or Hotel if you need to stay the night before the speedboat journey to Botikresort.

If you are going to stay in Indonesia for no longer than 30 days, all you need is to get a tourist visa at the airport once you have entered the country.

It costs 25 USD. Please contact the Indonesia embassy in your country of origin to ask for more information if you need.

If you are intending to stay longer, you will need a 60-day visa from your country of origin.

You can also enter Indonesia with a 30-day tourist visa and extend for another 30 days at the immigration office.

When you leave the country you will have to pay an airport tax of 150.000 Rupiah (around 15 USD).

Make sure your passport has at least two pages free, so you don’t get hassle at the airport.

Before Departure

The day before departure is better to settle the bill for alcohol (if you have consumed any) and pictures if you are interested in buying any so we don’t have to rush in the morning of departure.

The chartered speedboat is there at 6 am to take your group back to Padang so you can be there around 11 in the morning.

Our representative in Padang will be there to pick up the group and make the necessary arrangements to take everyone back to the airport or to a Hotel in case their flights leave only the next day.
